Filter coffee, roasted to order in our Devon roastery and ground for your filter machine, pour over or batch brewer. Choose ground and tell us it is for filter, or buy whole bean and grind it yourself.

The best coffee for filter

Filter brewing shows more of a coffee's character than espresso does, so the brighter single origins come into their own. Costa Rica is our light roast and at its best as filter. Kenya AA and Kenya Peaberry are lively and fruity. For a rounder, everyday filter coffee, Breakfast Blend, Colombia and Mocha Mysore are easy to drink black or with milk. Colombian Decaf works as filter too.

Filter coffee grind

Filter needs a medium grind, somewhere between cafetiere and espresso, roughly like table salt. Too fine and it drips slowly and tastes bitter. Too coarse and it runs through quickly and tastes weak.

How much coffee for a filter machine?

Start with about 60g of ground coffee per litre of water, then adjust to taste.

Can I use filter coffee in a cafetiere?

You can, but it is ground finer than a cafetiere likes, so it will taste stronger and a little silty. If you use both, buy whole bean and grind for each.
